Getting a passport might seem like a complicated task, but in reality, it is not. In fact, with proper documentation and knowledge about the process, you can easily get your passport. Following is an updated list of documents required for a passport.
The article is divided into three parts — documents for birth proof, address proof, and non-ECR proof. You can take notes from this list and make a checklist of your own before getting the process started. These are the major documents needed for a passport.
Birth Proof
To get a passport application, one of the documents which are mentioned below can be used as birth proof:
The birth certificate which is provided by the Registrar Of Births And Deaths, or in some cases the municipal corporation or any kind of authority which is valid and is empowered under the Act of the
Registration Of Births And Deaths, 1969. All of the above-mentioned authorities can register the birth of a child in India
The transfer certificate or the matriculation certificate which is provided by the last educational board can also be considered as proof of birth.
The certificate which is provided by the policy bonds which are provided by any kind of insurance company, whether private or public, can prove the birth of the policyholder.
The service record of an applicant who has been working in a sector of the government for the pay pension order, which is certified by the respective ministry of the applicant, can also be considered as proof of birth.

Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC) issued by the Election Commission Of India
PAN Card issued by the Income Tax Department
Driving license issued by The Transport Department Of Concerned State Government
The head of the orphanage of the child care home must provide a declaration for a specific child in order to prove the birth.
For passport application, any one of the following document is required as present residential proof:
Water Bill
Telephone (Landline or postpaid mobile bill)
Electricity Bill
Income Tax Assessment Order
Election Commission Photo ID Card
Proof of gas connection
Certificate from the employers of reputed companies on letterhead
The passport copy of the spouse along with the first and last page which contains the details of the family after mentioning the name of the applicant as the spouse of the holder of the passport. The address must also be checked in this respect
The passport copy of the parent in the case of minors. Both the first and last pages must be included

The photo which is present in the passbook of the running bank account. The sectors include public ones, scheduled banks, private sector banks, and regional rural banks only.
Non-ECR Proof
For passport application, any one of the following document is required as Non-ECR proof:
Any person who has the educational qualification of being over matriculation.
Matriculation or higher educational pass certificate
All persons above the age of 50 years
The municipal authority or any other official who is authorized to provide word certificates through the issue of birth and death certificates by the registrar of births and deaths
The transfer certificate or the school leaving certificate provided by the previous educational institution of the applicant, which is under any recognized board in India
Any child who is up to the age of 18. To re-issue the passport, they must be above the age of 18 and necessary documents must be provided to prove their non-ECR certificate or else another stamping will be done.
The birth certificate must be provided by the municipal authority or any other oscillator which is allowed to issue birth and death in India.
The income taxpayers who are also included under the agricultural segment in their capacity can include their spouse and dependent children who are below the age of 18 years.
The proof of the assessment of income tax and the actual payment made in terms of tax for the previous year. Return statements on income tax for the previous year must be stamped by the authorities and a copy of the PAN card must be provided.
A copy of the marriage certificate must be provided, which is issued by the marriage registrar. The verification of the spouse's name on the passport can be done by checking with this certificate.
The birth certificate is issued by the municipal authority or any other official who is authorized to issue the birth and death of a child in India. Dependent children must be signified with their relations.
Secondary School leaving certificate/School leaving certificate/Certificate of Recognized Boards which is achieved from the school of the applicant last visited. The dependent children must issue certificates that can signify relationships.
The National Council For Vocational Training (NCVT) or the person holding a three-year diploma/equivalent degree or State Council Of Vocational Training (SCVT) from specific institutions like Polytechnics which are recognized by The State/Central Government of India
Pass Certificate issued by the Institute
Nurses' qualifications are recognized under The Indian Nursing Council Act. 1947
Nursing Certificate
Every professional degree-holder along with their spouses and dependent children. Professional degree-holders, like doctors having degrees in homeopathy or Ayurveda, accredited journalists, chartered accountants, engineers, lecturers, teachers, advocates, scientists, etc.
Certificate of the professional degree held
The marriage certificate provided by an attested marriage registrar which can prove the identity of the spouse
A birth certificate is issued by the municipal authority or any other official who is allowed to provide the certificates by the registrar of births and deaths in India.
Signifying relationships can be denoted for dependent children
A certificate from the last leaving school, which is recognized by any of the boards in India, must be provided.
