What is a Passport?

Validity of the Passport

1) For applicants who are under the age of 15 years, their passports will be valid for a period of 18 years of age.

2) For Minors between the age group of 15-18 years, the passport can be applied and will be valid for a period of 10 years.

Note: A 36-page booklet Passport is applicable for minors below 5 years of age. For People above this age, the 60-page Passport is applicable.

Documents Required for Passport


Applicants who are below the age of 18 and whose parents are citizens of India are applicable for a minor passport. Any parent or guardian can apply online for a child passport using the following documents:-

  1. Proof of Date of Birth Of the child(any of these)
    • Aadhaar Card
    • Birth Certificate
    • Matriculation Certificate

  2. Proof of Current Residential Address

  3. Original and self-attested copies of the Passport of the parent or legal guardian
  4. A copy of the bank account passbook of any bank
  5. Birth Certificate
  6. School leaving certificate/ Secondary school certificate
  7. Aadhar card/ e-Aadhar
  8. Pan card

Procedure to Obtain Child Passport Online


  • Step 1 : Open the Passport-sahayata.org home page.

  • Step 2: Select the ‘Fresh/New Passport' option in the Online Services portal.

  • Step 3: Fill in the required details as per the form and click on Submit.

  • Step 4: Further, click on the ‘Validate and Continue’. As soon as you click on this, you will be directed to a page where you can choose the mode in which payment can be done. Online payments are mandatory for booking appointments at any Passport Seva Kendra/Passport Office.

  • Step 5: After the payment, one of our executives will proceed with the application and schedule an appointment date

  • Step 6: Visit the Passport Office on the scheduled date of appointment, with all the original documents for verification. .

  • Step 7: You will receive your Passport via post.
